Corks

TCA (2,4,6-Trichloroanisole) is a molecule present in cork and responsible for organoleptic deviations in wines commonly known as "cork taint".
TCA is a very powerful aromatic molecule which contaminates wines at low concentrations: in the order of ng/L.

The Revtech Solution

The disinfection of granulated cork, by elimination of TCA, -in accordance with the International Code of Cork Stoppers Manufacturing Practices-, is a crucial step in the manufacturing process of technical cork stoppers. It allows to control the organoleptic deviations of the bottled product.

Specialized in the design of industrial heat treatment equipment, Revtech has developed an innovative solution based on the transport and mixing of raw materials in a spiral tube allowing their heating by direct contact with a vibrating impedance tube. Associated with steam stripping, this patented process allows the elimination of molecules naturally present in cork, such as TCA.
